It's Me!

Rise and Shine, Rise and Shine, Rise and Shine

Hello, Friday. Where have you been?

Today should be a good day; after a week of upheaval and disruption, I'll be able to sit and write for many hours whilst the girls are at school and Tim has errands to run. Harmony has a really neat after school activity, and I'm pretty sure there's something neat in store for Nadia too today.

It looks like it is fixing to rain, and it's supposed to rain all the weekend. Yesterday while we were out and about as a result of the disruption, I came across a Nordicware bundt pan on clearance for $5 and snapped that baby up. This weekend, I shall make Butternut cake. It's a rich, dense cake that features Superior's Vanilla, Butter, and Nut flavoring which I'd never even known existed until Tim's mom introduced me to it. For some reason, it needs to bake in a bundt pan - I think it may be because it is such a heavy, dense cake that to do otherwise condemns one to life with a cake perpetually runny and uncooked in the middle. I've only made it twice; neither time, of course, was as good as Mom's, but somehow the family managed to eat every single crumb.

It is good to have plans.

I'd had a bundt pan previously, of course, but something bad happened to it, and it was never shaped quite right again, and that bothered me greatly when I used it. Generally, the cakes you make in the bundt pan are expensive cakes; lots of eggs, nifty flavorings, the odd bits of decadence stirred into the batter. If it's a boring old applesauce cake with raisins and walnuts and cinnamon, it can go into the glass casserole pan and never no mind it; these are cakes that are meant to be eaten without so much conscious regard, you know? Cut the piece you want, grab some milk and go...

You do realize that if I continue in this fashion I shall be ravenous before long.

And now I hear little ones moving ... I must see what that's about.
